When life hands you lemons, make rum punch*~


No summer would be complete without some Bajan rumpunch. Naturally, I would recommend you use Mount Gay Old Gold for this but any cheap rum equivalent will do (I quite like Morgan's Spiced Rum) For the rest you need freshly squeezed lime juice, simple syrup and lots of ice.

To make the perfect rum punch just remember this rhyme:

1 of SOUR
2 of SWEET
3 of STRONG 
4 of WEAK

This ratio can be applied to any measurement, depending on how much you would like to make. We generally use cups so squeeze one cup full of lime juice and make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after this as the juice becomes very acidic once you go in the sun and can blister your skin. For simple syrup bring to boil 2 cups of water and 2 cups of brown sugar, until it has melted and formed a thick syrup (you may need to add more sugar depending on how sweet you like it). Mix this together in a jug and add water or crushed ice to taste. Rum punch is silent but deadly; on a hot day the effects of the rum will sneak up on you! Serve in a short glass with fresh nutmeg grated on top. Enjoy!
