Wednesday's Window to the World : Cape Coast, Ghana

This was taken from the slave castle in Cape coast called "Fort Amsterdam (Cormantin)". You are looking over a beach called Abandze beach which in Ghanaian language means "Relax- view from a hill". This is where the English first arrived in the "Gold Coast" as Ghana was known in those days. They set up a fort here and were selling the slaves to the Caribbean and beyond. The Dutch then claimed it from them during a war. About 16 million slaves were bought from all over West Africa and this castle was the last thing many of them saw of the continent."
